Our Story
Built because nothing else worked.
It started with a knee that wouldn't quit hurting.
Erik, our founder, was 34 when the sharp pinch below his kneecap started showing up after every run. It wasn't a dramatic injury. No tear, no fall, no single moment it went wrong — just a slow build-up from years of pavement miles, weekend basketball, and ignoring the small aches until they became bigger ones.
The diagnosis was runner's knee. Patellar tendonitis. The advice was the usual: rest for six weeks, ice, anti-inflammatories, maybe physical therapy, maybe cortisone if it didn't improve. Erik did all of it. Some things helped a little. Nothing actually fixed it.
The knee sleeves were bulky and slipped down. The KT tape came off after twenty minutes of sweat. The generic straps from the drugstore either did nothing or dug into his skin. He had a closet full of products that promised relief and delivered almost none.
So we built what we wished existed.
We started Ascend Labs with one goal: build a patellar strap that actually works — for people who refuse to stop moving. Not a medical device. Not a miracle cure. A simple, well-engineered tool that takes the load off the exact spot where the pain starts, so you can keep running, keep hiking, keep playing with your kids without wincing every time you bend your knee.
The Ascend Strap is the result of two years of iteration. A 10mm silicone cushion instead of the thin 6mm most competitors use. A wider 50mm contact band for stable, even pressure. A towel-lined interior so it doesn't chafe. And at 26 grams, it's light enough that you forget you're wearing it.
It's not magic. It won't rebuild damaged cartilage or heal a torn meniscus. What it does is simple: redistribute the impact away from the sore spot, every time you move — so your tendon gets a break from the hammering it's been taking.
In our customers' words.
"I'm a 42-year-old weekend basketball player and my right knee has been screaming at me for two years. I've tried sleeves, braces, KT tape, PT — you name it. I almost didn't order the Ascend Strap because I assumed it would be another $40 in the drawer of failed attempts. Three weeks later, I played a full two-hour pickup game and didn't think about my knee once. That hasn't happened since 2023. It's not a magic cure — I still feel the ache when I overdo it on long runs. But for the first time in a long time, I'm not afraid to play."
What we promise.
We'll be honest with you about what this product does and what it doesn't. The Ascend Strap is designed for patellar tendon discomfort — runner's knee, jumper's knee, and the kind of wear-and-tear that comes from staying active. If you have a serious knee injury, see a doctor first. If you're looking for a miracle, this isn't it.
But if you just want to stop feeling that sharp signal every time you take the stairs — and get back to the activities you love — we built this for you.
Thanks for being here.
